What REALLY hurts is that these noise boxes actually get their way…. at the expense of the rest of us. Saturday a 4 yr old shot another one in Alabama… another gun accident…. nobody seems to care. Blame the parents. Never mind the fact it never would have happened had they not be able to have a gun in the first place.
Gonna have to agree to disagree on this one. Gun control has become the polarizing topic of the day. Gun control has not been beneficial in ANY state or country that has tightened the laws. In addition, who’s going to care about the tightened gun laws? The criminals and/or the mentally deranged aren’t going to care any more then than they do now. The only ones hurt by tightening the gun laws are the lawful citizens. That is why the gun control changes failed, IMO, because they won’t work. Kinda like socialism, once you see enough examples that something doesnt work, eventually you come to the conclusion that maybe that’s not the way to go. I actually wrote a little about the gun controversy in a couple of my posts.
I think you missed the point of the cartoon. While NRA convention-goers were ranting and raving about their gun rights in Houston this past weekend, who speaks for the victims of gun-related crimes? No one in their right mind is demanding law-abiding gun owners relinquish their weapons. But, the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution does mention a “well-regulated Militia,” along with “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms.” But, I’ve noticed that 2nd Amendment advocates conveniently skip the 1st Amendment, which ensures freedom of speech, the press and to assemble “peaceably.” Those are equally essential freedoms, and altogether, they work in conjunction to ensure a democratic state. Just listening to some of the NRA speakers made me cringe; people like Sarah Palin and Ted Nugent are so far to the right they come off sounding like lunatics – which they are. Meanwhile, the rest of us law-abiding citizens keep trying to muddle through the mess.
They say that not speaking out is the best thing to do sometimes, but most of the time it is the most deadly thing.
