Nothing Wrong Here

This Cheerios commercial with a young biracial girl discussing the cereal with her White mother and Black father generated so much negative feedback General Mills disabled comments on its web site.  But, according to Camille Gibson, vice-president of marketing for General Mills, responses have been overwhelmingly positive.  “At Cheerios, we know there are many kinds of families and we celebrate them all,” added Gibson.

Some Americans just can’t get over the Black / White thing.

  1. I think it’s a fantastic ad. It shows the love the kid has for her dad. It doesn’t matter if he is black, white, German, French (okay that one is pushing it) <— just kidding, Martian, Mouse, Green or purple. Strip away the skin and everybody is the same.

  2. I like the ad too. But let’s face it, a company as big as General Mills doesn’t go to the bathroom without first running it by a focus group, so they didn’t just put this out there to make a social statement. They want to sell cereal.
