“I was informed by the past director of NASA that they have found that the moon’s orbit is changing slightly and so has the Earth’s orbit around the sun. Is there anything that the national Forest Service or [Bureau of Land Management] can do to change the course of the moon’s orbit or the Earth’s orbit around the sun? Obviously, that would have profound effects on our climate.”
Rep. Louie Gohmert, to Jennifer Eberlien, associate deputy chief of the U.S. Forest Service, during a congressional hearing on climate change
Eberlien responded, “I would have to follow up with you on that one, Mr. Gohmert.”
Ah, the downside of democracy: we can elect stupid people to represent us. He went to the Mo Brooks school of legislation. Mo, who is my congressman, once asked if rocks could be causing sea rise.
Rocks cause rising sea levels? I guess Brooks and Gohmert are proof that attending family reunions to get a date is a bad idea.
I don’t know which is worse: that idiotic question or the fact that the answer wasn’t “what the hell are you talking about? The answer would be NO!” Then again, I at least get why the answer wasn’t that – you’re supposed to behave at these things. But… it’s as bad as bringing a snow-ball into Congress during a snow storm (in dead of winter) to prove that Global Warming isn’t happening.
If there was a stupid tax, we’d be able to pay off the national debt in a day.
And fund the next 12 wars, a complete revamp of the infrastructure, and pay for all new text books and raise the salaries for state funded schools.
