America has always been a place of freedom for affluent white men. For the rest of us, it ebbs and flows. The word “constitutionalist” is used to describe far-right Supreme Court justices; the term means they support only affluent white men – described as land owners – making decisions about the future of our nation. And, indeed, that is how this country is run today to a certain extent.
I agree with you wholeheartedly, Jen! I’ve had to explain to some people that’s why all hell broke loose in this country in the 1960s; large groups of people had done everything reasonable to be considered equal and were tired of still being treated like second-class citizens. They just exploded. Regardless, I still believe in the ideals this nation proposes and know we can’t give up. Even though it looks like the extremist right-wing is winning with Trump’s presidency and recent SCOTUS decisions, we just can’t stand back and only shake our heads in dismay.
