Most Unhinged Moment of the Week – May 15, 2020

“Texas’ Governor says you don’t need (expletive)!”

 – An unidentified man at a 99 Cent Only store in San Antonio, Texas, after an employee told him to wear a mask as part of company policy to prevent spread of COVID-19.

The belligerent, maskless man had charged at other customers who were recording him and even shouted at one, “Don’t record me!  That’s an invasion of my personal privacy!”

I have to make three points regarding this particular incident.  For one thing, while Texas Governor Greg Abbott hasn’t made it mandatory for people wear masks in public, he has encouraged the practice.  Also, when someone is in public – angry or not – they should have no expectation of privacy.  Finally, if you’ve ever been to a 99 Cent Only store, you should understand that the COVID-19 virus is the least potential health hazard you’ll face.

Worst Quote of the Week – May 15, 2020

“I’m in complete confidence that if I’m exposed to the coronavirus that either I won’t get it, or if I do get it, that, hey, it will be a few days and I’ll be fine afterwards.  Because when your immune system is strong – God designed our bodies to fight viruses. And that’s the thing: For me, it’s an attitude and mentality of faith over fear.”

Gabe Lyons, co-founder of Q, a Christian organization, in a recent COVID-19 discussion with followers.

Best Quote of the Week – May 15, 2020

“Mail-in ballots aren’t where the election fraud is happening.  It’s happening in the office of our indicted attorney general.”

Kendall Scudder, a Dallas County businessman who – along with another man – filed a formal complaint against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, alleging the latter committed voter fraud in each of the state’s 254 counties by contradicting a judge’s order expanding the availability of mail-in voting during the COVID-19 pandemic.

How the Chief Is Coping with the COVID-19 Quarantine – May 8, 2020

Reading bedtime stories to my aloe vera plant, Paco, is incredibly relaxing and soothing – well, at least for me.  And I know what you’re thinking.  (Remember, the Chief is cyber-psychic.  Who in the hell would name a plant Paco?  I mean…that’s so Mexican!  Okay, aside from me, Paco is the only other living being inside my house!  Even introverts must find a sense of humanity!

Donald Trump with Gov. Kim Reynolds at the Iowa Caucus this past January

“The media likes to say we have the most [coronavirus] cases, but we do, by far, the most testing. If we did very little testing, we wouldn’t have the most cases. So, in a way, by doing all of this testing, we make ourselves look bad.”

President Donald Trump, during a meeting with Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, May 6.

Photo of the Week – May 1, 2020

This week a number of people protesting the state of Michigan’s shutdown in the midst of the COVID-19 stormed the state capital in Lansing demanding that Governor Gretchen Whitmer rescind the quarantine orders and allow anyone to return to work and shopping if they want.  In other words, they don’t like that a global pandemic has usurped their presumed placement as the center of the universe.  Many of the protesters arrived with guns and rifles; some wearing Nazi swastikas and others adorned in Confederate regalia (those morons keep fighting the 19th century American Civil War and damn!  They still haven’t won!)

A few stood in front of law enforcement officials – the latter wearing face masks – and screamed profanities.  This photo is just image of the virulent mad (mostly White) men unleashing their vitriol.  Faux-President Trump has expressed support for them.

I keep thinking if a group of Black or Latino residents had shown up in the Michigan state capital building with firearms protesting something, how long would they last?

How the Chief Is Coping with the COVID-19 Quarantine – April 24, 2020

Taking out some pesky ants is always a great inconvenience.  But I don’t particularly like the aroma of insecticide wafting through my house, especially my kitchen, so I had to take a more drastic measure.

Gosh…I guess I should have thought of sledgehammer repercussions.
