Worst Quotes of the Week – July 9, 2022

“So, why didn’t anyone raise an alarm? Well, maybe because he didn’t stand out. Maybe because there are a lot of young men in America who suddenly look and act a lot like this guy.  And of course, they’re angry. They know that their lives will not be better than their parents’. They’ll be worse. That’s all but guaranteed. They know that. They’re not that stupid.  And yet the authorities in their lives – mostly women – never stop lecturing them about their so-called privilege. ‘You’re male, you’re privileged!’”

Tucker Carlson, about the 21-year-old man charged with the mass shooting at a July 4 parade in Highland Park, Illinois

“The Highland Park shooting, unbelievable. Unbelievable.  They just passed this law, didn’t they?  18 to 21 year olds couldn’t buy rifles and all kinds of other kinds of things in this law that we told you wouldn’t matter.  They don’t matter.  And they’re not going to matter.  We’ve got a huge problem in this country and it’s a cultural decay. That’s what’s going on in this country.  Cultural decay, the decay of the civil society, the war on cops, the way that human life is viewed, whether it’s abortion, infanticide, whatever the issue.”

Mark Levin, blaming abortion for mass shootings in the U.S.

“If a constitutional right is not mentioned in the constitutional text, it doesn’t exist. I don’t care how desirable it may seem as a matter of policy.”

Jonathan Mitchell, former Texas Solicitor General and principal architect of Texas Senate Bill 8, which outlawed abortion, on targeting other Supreme Court rulings now that Roe has been overturned

Mitchell has opened a private law firm in Austin, Texas, Mitchell Law PLLC, to go after such rulings as Lawrence and Obergefell.

Worst Quotes of the Week – June 11, 2022

“I vote to make sure that those parents be held for child abuse.  There is no such thing as trans kids, there are only abusive parents who are pushing that evil, evil sexual orientation onto their child’s mind. I want to make sure that those parents have been held accountable.  We should start putting some of those parents in jail for abusing their child’s minds. Especially in the school system, any teacher that is teaching that LGBT, transgenderism, furries, the groomers, any sexual orientation communication in the school system should be immediately terminated but [teachers should also] be held for abusing young children.”

Mark Burns, self-described pastor running for the U.S. Congress from South Carolina

Burns, who lied about his military service, declared that – if he’s elected – will reinstate the House Un-American Activities Committee so the government can “start executing people” guilty of treason.

“And of course, above all, they lie about the reason that January 6 happened in the first place. And you know what it is – the entire country watched Joe Biden get what they claimed was 10 million more votes than Barack Obama himself. Joe Biden got 10 million more votes than Barack Obama got. And a lot of those votes arrived after the election.  In a lot of places, voting was stopped in the middle of the night. Why? In the biggest states in the country, voter ID was optional. Why is that okay? A lot of the protesters on January 6 were very upset about that, and they should have been. All of us should be. But the January 6 committee ignored all of that completely. Instead, on the basis of zero evidence, no evidence whatsoever, they blame the entire riot on white supremacy.”

Worst Quotes of the Week – May 28, 2022

In the aftermath of the Uvalde school shooting, there were so many idiotic comments made by conservative politicians and other right-wing dumbasses it was tough to highlight them all.  But here are a few.

“The President of the United States. Frail, confused, bitterly partisan, desecrating the memory of recently murdered children with tired talking points of the Democratic Party. Dividing the country in a moment of deep pain, rather than uniting. His voice rising, amplified only as he repeats the talking points he repeated for over 35 years in the Senate. Partisan politics being the only thing that animates him. Unfit to lead this country.”

Tucker Carlson, responding to President Biden’s comments after the Uvalde school shooting

“I want to be very, very clear tonight.  President Biden appeared on camera tonight for less than eight minutes, not because he believed that his words would comfort the families or the friends of the victims, not because he believed that he would calm what are obviously frayed nerves of a worried nation, parents who are worried.  And he didn’t do it to unite America in this time of grief.  No, he did not.  He spoke tonight because politics is selfish.  Because in today’s twisted world, it’s considered perfectly appropriate to exploit the massacre of innocent little kids in order to try to turn around your own sagging poll members.  Today, Reuters/Ipsos has Biden at the lowest approval of his presidency, 36%. So this attempt at political resuscitation on Biden’s part, it’s despicable.”

Laura Ingraham, about Biden’s comments on the Uvalde massacre

“We need to celebrate our culture.  We need to celebrate Americanism, we need to celebrate the Judeo-Christian principles that went into the founding of this nation.  And if you’re not Jewish, you’re not Christian, there’s no reason to take offense.  You came here, a family member came here because of the nature of the country.  You fled.  You don’t have to be Jewish or Christian but facts are facts. It was founded on a Judeo-Christian belief system which embraces Western civilization and the Renaissance, the Reformation, and all these things.  It’s not so terrible to have a prayer in school, is it?  Even a silent prayer.  To think about a higher authority, learn the Ten Commandments.  The Ten Commandments are common sense.”

Fox News host Mark Levin, discussing the Uvalde shooting on his radio show

“Having one point of entry and making it more difficult for people even to get in that point of entry and having – potentially – teachers and other administrators who have gone through training and who are armed because first responders typically can’t get there in time to prevent a shooting.  This is just not possible unless you have a police officer on every campus, which for a lot of these schools is almost impossible.  You’re going to have to do more at the school because it typically involves very short periods of time and you have to have people trained on campus to react.”

Worst Quotes of the Week – May 21, 2022

“Because a mentally ill teenager murdered strangers, you cannot be allowed to express your political views out loud. That’s what they’re telling you.”

Tucker Carlson, responding to the mass shooting at a Buffalo, New York grocery store on May 14

Carlson also stated that “hate speech” is just speech that other people hate.  He and other right-wing pundits have been criticized for propagating “replacement” theory, which claims that native-born (White) Americans are being replaced by immigrants from other (non-Western European) countries.

“Abortion is not the way to help single Black mothers.”

Sen. Tim Scott, in an editorial criticizing a speech by Janet Yellen, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, about the impact overturning abortion rights could have on many working women

Yellen had stated, “I believe that eliminating the right of women to make decisions about when and whether to have children would have very damaging effects on the economy.”  She went on to say how abortion affects “particularly low-income and often Black” mothers and how a lack of access to abortion “deprives them of the ability often to continue their education to later participate in the workforce.”

Scott declared, “To me, this was stunning. I thought I had misheard her.  Was Yellen making the case for how abortion is good for America’s labor force?  But when questioned, Yellen doubled down on what I believe is a callous, inhumane reason for ending innocent life.”

Worst Quotes of the Week – May 7, 2022

“I think we will resurrect that case and challenge this issue again, because the expenses are extraordinary and the times are different than when Plyler versus Doe was issued many decades ago.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, about the 1982 Supreme Court decision that struck down a Texas law that had denied state funding to educate children who had not been “legally admitted” to the United States

Abbott wants Texas to challenge the ruling because of its high cost to Texas taxpayers.

“Democrats have convinced themselves that Russia stole the presidency, which rightfully belonged to Hillary Clinton. And they mean it when they say it.  And that’s why they are taking us to war with Russia.  So, that’s not their goal — saving Ukraine, saving human lives.  No, that’s not their goal. Instead, the war in Ukraine is designed to cause regime change in Moscow. They want to topple the Russian government. That would be payback for the 2016 election.  So, this is the logical, maybe the inevitable, end stage of Russiagate.”

Tucker Carlson, describing how he thinks the Democratic Party is somehow responsible for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

“We shall have our theocracy very soon.”

Vincent James, a radical White nationalist celebrating the leaked Supreme Court decision on Roe v. Wade

James also said he hopes the decision will eventually lead Americans to seeing Justices Alito and Thomas “throwing gay people off of tall buildings”.

Most Hypocritical Quote of the Week – March 5, 2022

“You know, it’s such an awful thing to say. We hesitated to play that, even – it’s very common, you hear it every day. The question is: Why are they saying that? It doesn’t make any sense.”

Tucker Carlson, after playing a news clip of U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell saying he and other Republicans were on Putin’s side

This is a contrast to Carlson’s previous statements about Putin.  During his February 22 broadcast, he declared: “The point here is to defend democracy. Not that Ukraine is a democracy. It’s not a democracy. Ukraine’s president has arrested his main political opponent, he has shut down newspapers and television stations that have dared to criticize him. So in American terms, you would call Ukraine a tyranny. But Joe Biden likes Ukraine, so Putin bad, war good.”

Since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine crisis, Russian media outlets have been sharing news clips of conservative American political and media figures speaking positively about Putin.

Worst Quotes of the Week – January 22, 2022

“I saw a large group and made a joke.  Sadly when Democrats see the same they demonize my family for a year straight.”

Rep. Lauren Boebert, trying to explain her response to a group of Orthodox Jewish visitors to the U.S. Capitol

The group, whose members donned traditional yarmulkes, was meeting with Rep. Tom Suozzi.  Boebert’s remark came just days after a hostage-taking ordeal at a synagogue in Colleyville, Texas.

“And the solution is as simple as the problem.  Here’s the solution, stop putting up with it.  Say no.  No, you can’t smoke meth in the park. You’re not allowed to crap on the sidewalk.  Pull up your pants and get the hell out of here.  Go somewhere with lower standards.  Head for a place where politicians don’t care about their people, because we do care and that’s why we’re hauling your tent to a landfill and cutting off your checks today. You are a drug addict.  Get a job or leave. This is our city, you are not allowed to wreck it; you didn’t build it.”

Video of the Week – January 8, 2022

This is Sen. Ted Cruz giving something of a mea culpa to talk show screed Tucker Carlson over the senator’s frequent description of the January 6, 2021 Capitol Hill insurrection as a terrorist attack.  It’s obvious Cruz is terrified of faux journalist Carlson who always gives the same expression a puppy does when it tries to understand what you’re saying.  Of course, puppies are way cuter – and often far more intelligent – than Carlson on his best day.

‘Get-a-Rope’ Quote of the Week – June 26, 2021

“He’s not just a pig – he’s stupid.”

Tucker Carlson, about Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley

Carlson – who has come out strongly against critical race theory – added, “So Mark Milley reads Mao to understand Maoism and he reads communists to understand communism, but it’s interesting that he doesn’t read white supremacists to understand white supremacy.”
