Video of the Week – January 22, 2022

Who knew that local television reporting could be dangerous?  Tori Yorgey of WSAZ-TV in Charleston, West Virginia could provide some insight.  Yorgey was reporting on a water main break in nearby Dunbar during an evening broadcast on January 19, when she was struck by a white S.U.V. and knocked down.  The camera fell to the ground as well, and from outside the shot, Yorgey could be heard telling her in-studio colleague, “I just got hit by a car, but I’m OK.”

Regardless of Yorgey’s nonchalant demeanor, it was a frightening episode.

Worst Quotes of the Week – January 22, 2022

“I saw a large group and made a joke.  Sadly when Democrats see the same they demonize my family for a year straight.”

Rep. Lauren Boebert, trying to explain her response to a group of Orthodox Jewish visitors to the U.S. Capitol

The group, whose members donned traditional yarmulkes, was meeting with Rep. Tom Suozzi.  Boebert’s remark came just days after a hostage-taking ordeal at a synagogue in Colleyville, Texas.

“And the solution is as simple as the problem.  Here’s the solution, stop putting up with it.  Say no.  No, you can’t smoke meth in the park. You’re not allowed to crap on the sidewalk.  Pull up your pants and get the hell out of here.  Go somewhere with lower standards.  Head for a place where politicians don’t care about their people, because we do care and that’s why we’re hauling your tent to a landfill and cutting off your checks today. You are a drug addict.  Get a job or leave. This is our city, you are not allowed to wreck it; you didn’t build it.”

Best Quotes of the Week – January 22, 2022

“The best thing to do when faced with voter suppression – and my friends, this is what voter suppression looks like – the best thing to defeat it is to go vote. The best thing to do is fight back.”

Dana DeBeauvoir, Travis County, Texas District Clerk, offering advice to voters

“Donald Trump, Donald Trump, Jr., and Ivanka Trump have all been closely involved in the transactions in question, so we won’t tolerate their attempts to evade testifying in this investigation.”

Letitia James, New York State Attorney General, in a statement released January 18 in which she alleges former President Donald Trump and his family inflated the value of his properties and misstated his personal worth in representations to lenders, insurance brokers and other players in his real estate empire

“History will not remember them kindly.”

Martin Luther King III, the son of the late civil rights leader, comparing Sens. Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin to the White moderates his father wrote about during the civil rights battles of the 1950s and 1960s – who declared support for the goals of Black voting rights but not the direct actions or demonstrations that ultimately led to passage of landmark legislation

“COVID is real; COVID is a threat. But even more serious than COVID, as real and scary as it is, is to see thousands and thousands of thousands of voters not being able to vote, and it was on our watch. We refuse to stop. We refuse to turn around.”

Rev. Adolphus Lacey, a pastor in New York’s Brooklyn borough, announcing ongoing voter registration efforts despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic

“This case is a disaster for the rule of law and a grave disservice to women in Texas, who have a right to control their own bodies.  I will not stand by silently as a State continues to nullify this constitutional guarantee.  I dissent.”

Betty White Challenge

“Animals don’t lie.  Animals don’t criticize.  If animals have moody days, they handle them better than humans do.”

Betty White

Today marks the 100th anniversary of Betty White’s birth.  The beloved actress and icon of American television died on New Year’s Eve.  Aside from her lengthy career, White was also known for her love of animals.  In honor of what would have been her centennial year, people across the country are being asked to donate to animal shelters and/or adopt or foster a pet for the Betty White Challenge.  Any donation, no matter how small, will be accepted and appreciated.

From the ‘Only in Texas’ Files – January 15, 2022

Hey, did you hear the story about the teacher who dumped her sick kid into the trunk of her car so she wouldn’t get infected?

This is true!  And it could only happen in Texas!  Sandra Beam is facing child endangerment charges for placing her 13-year-old son in the trunk of her car, after he tested positive for COVID-19.  Her reasoning?  She didn’t want to get infected herself!

Her decision prompted her suspension from the Cypress-Fairbanks school district and a felony charge of child endangerment.  She was jailed, but managed to post a USD 1,500 bond.  As of now, it’s not known whether or not she has an attorney.

The 41-year-old teacher is highly-regarded among her peers and has received a slew of support from the community where she has been described as kind and genuine.  Think about it though: the witch placed her own son into the trunk of her car so she wouldn’t get sick.

Here’s a bright idea: WHERE A MASK!

Here’s another bright idea: as punishment, dump home-girl into the trunk of that same car with a bottle of water and a cell phone and park it by a sewage plant for 12 hours.

From the ‘Creepy as Shit Files – January 15, 2022

Actress Megan Fox, best known for her roles in the Transformers franchise, and rap singer Machine Gun Kelly (Colson Baker) recently announced on their respective Instagram accounts that, after more than a year of dating, they are engaged.

“In July of 2020 we sat under this banyan tree,” Fox wrote in the caption of her post.  “We asked for magic.  We were oblivious to the pain we would face together in such a short, frenetic period of time.  Unaware of the work and sacrifices the relationship would require from us but intoxicated off of the love. And the karma.”

It gets better – or worse, depending on your age category and romantic predilections.

Fox continued: “And just as in every lifetime before this one, and as in every lifetime that will follow it, I said yes…and then we drank each other’s blood.”

Call me old-fashioned, but what happened to engagement rings?  Blood?!  I would have preferred a shot of tequila and a hand job – not necessarily in that order.  But again, I’m old school when it comes to love and romance.

And I feel so sad for that banyan tree; having to witness that kind of psychosis on full display.  Let us hope and pray it can get the proper therapy and go on to lead a happy arboreal life.
